The important bits

Terms of Service

A plain-English guide to using AFRO — App For Rocks — on the web and on mobile. Climb responsibly, respect the community, and look after the places the guide helps you explore.

Effective 29 July 2026

Using AFRO

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use AFRO. If you use the service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

Operator and service

AFRO is a Pixel Poetry project operated by Marc Duby. These terms cover the AFRO web and mobile apps, accounts, guide data, community tools, and optional support features.

App stores and platform terms

If you download AFRO from Apple or Google Play, your use of those stores is subject to their terms. These Terms govern your relationship with AFRO; platform terms govern your relationship with the store.

Accounts and security

  • You are responsible for your account and activity under it.
  • Keep your login credentials secure and tell us about unauthorised access.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or applicable law.

Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit. Content becomes an AFRO Commons contribution only when you make the relevant sharing choice and the current, versioned agreement has been recorded. Its licence and attribution snapshot travel with that contribution.

Private logbook entries, notes, body measurements, optional gender identity, guest or partner records, and unpublished drafts are not Commons contributions merely because they are stored or privately synced.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to anything you share. The AFRO Commons Agreement records the applicable Creative Commons profile and attribution for contributions made through AFRO's mobile and web capture tools.

Good rule of thumb: share what you made, what you have permission to share, and what helps the next climber have a better day.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use AFRO for illegal, harmful, or abusive activities.
  • Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or interfere with the service.
  • Do not scrape, harvest, or misuse data without permission.

Privacy and third-party services

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use information. By using AFRO, you agree to our privacy practices.

AFRO integrates with map providers, Google OAuth, and PostHog. We use PostHog for product analytics and error or exception tracking so we can understand what needs improving and diagnose reliability problems across the web and mobile apps. PostHog is not used to sell personal information or for advertising.

Supporting AFRO

AFRO is a Pixel Poetry project operated by Marc Duby. Optional support payments help cover AFRO’s operating costs. They do not buy, unlock, or improve access to any app feature, content, badge, status, recognition, rank, moderation influence, or service.

One-off and recurring support

A one-off contribution is charged once. Monthly and yearly contributions are automatically renewing subscriptions: Stripe charges the amount and cadence shown at checkout until you cancel. Checkout is Stripe-hosted and requires an authenticated AFRO account. You can review or cancel recurring support in AFRO under Profile › Support › My contributions. A scheduled cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

Payments, receipts, and tax status

Stripe processes the payment for Pixel Poetry. AFRO and Pixel Poetry are not represented as a nonprofit or charity, and support is not claimed as tax deductible. AFRO does not issue a donation or nonprofit tax receipt; Stripe provides the payment receipt for a completed charge.

Refunds and payment help

For a refund request or payment question, email support@app-for-rocks.com. Approved refunds return to the original payment method and may take additional time to appear, depending on Stripe, your bank, or card issuer. Refunding a recurring charge does not by itself cancel future renewal, so cancel the subscription separately if you want it to stop. The full process is in our Refunds & cancellation policy.

The legal bits

Disclaimers

AFRO is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your expectations.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AFRO and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of data or profits arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Termination

You may stop using AFRO at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or if we discontinue the service.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this page.
